- What's New?
- Just found this web site today (July 2nd, 2006)! Was
very disappointed to visit Mountain View several
years ago and find out that our original school was
closed. Since I only attended MVHS for the last year
and a half, I imagine most of you don't remember me.
I misplaced my yearbook, so it's hard for me to
remember who was there at the same time. I have one
football program that survived our many moves. You
might remember...
I was the first male cheer leader for our alma mater
(took a lot of hits for that), played Professor
Harold Hill in "The Music Man" musical play, was
editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, was number
two position on the varsity tennis team, and my
sweetheart was Connie Roberts.
After graduation, went one year to San Jose
State "College," (majored in radio television
production, which came in handy when I worked part
time as a country western DJ in Idaho Falls while
attending a navy school), left college to join the
United States Navy in '67 (Vietnam era), entering the
nuclear power program as a seaman in training to be a
reactor operator; was selected for a navy college
program in '70 and earned my BS degree in Engineering
Design at the University of Colorado in '74 as well
as receiving a commission as an Ensign in the Navy;
Served in the Pacific fleet as a Surface Warfare
Officer, serving on several ships including USS
Sperry (AS 12), ASW Officer and First Lieutenant on
USS Truxtun (CGN 35), Electronic Warfare Officer on
USS Tarawa (LHA 1), Operations Officer on USS
Cochrane (DDG 21), and Executive Officer on USS White
Plains (AFS 4). Got an opportunity to visit nearly
every country and island in the Pacific and Indian
oceans. But the highlite was 4 years in Japan as
Communications Liaisson Officer working with the
joint and combined forces of Japan and the US.
Retired as a Lieutenant Commander with 23 years
service in 1990; Managed the Ship Simulator Facility
at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy for 12 years. While
there I earned a Master of Business Administration
degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Am now
semi-retired and am dabbling in real estate.
Am married to Betty, a Rhode Islander, have two
daughters (one is a teacher in Santa Cruz, CA and the
other is in advertising in New York City) and one son
(in manufacturing in Fairfield, CA). Also have two
grand daughters and one new grandson! My wife and I
live on a beautiful lake in Hope Valley with Kaji
(our long-haired german shepherd), Aiko (Champion
Belgian Tervuren) and Joe (an African grey parrot).
Now I'm going to keep an eye out for other alumni
members to join this site.
Good health and fun to all of you out there. Feel
free to write and say hi.

- What's New?
- So much has happened since I graduated (or didn't
graduate and got my GED later) that I couldn't
possibly put it into this 3600 byte space, BUT,
I do want to say I had many great memories and hope
everyone is happy, enjoying life, and staying healthy..
Seems my life starts new, everyday...

- What's New?
- Since graduating from MHVS in 1966, I got a BA in drama
from San Jose State University in design, and worked
for the Palo Alto Community Theatre and the California
Shakespeare Festival until graduation from college. I
then turned to graphic arts, working for newspapers
large and small.
Eventually, I got involved in the New Age movement,
heavy in to EST in the mid 1970s, then into more
esoteric areas like the Course in Miracles and Ramtha.
I moved to Orcas Island in 1984 to help edit and design
the "great white book," titled "Ramtha." I found I had
an affinity to "understanding" things and drifted in to
writing feature articles and interview with most of the
major leaders of the New Age movement. I was managing
editor of a magazine for a New Age trade association,
NAPRA, for several years. For one year, I was research
assistant for Jane Heimlich (Ms. Maneuver) for the
update of her book on alternative medicine titled "What
Your Doctor Won't Tell You." (never published as she
decided to retire.)
I am most well known for being a music reviewer, and
have written for New Age Voice, All Music Guide, and
barnesandnoble.com (where I was New Age music editor
and body/mind/spirit video editor).
Since the dot.comcrashes, most writing opportunities
have dried up, but I still write interviews and reviews
as requested. See my website for examples. I am most
proud of my work with electronic music pioneer Wendy
Carlos who has my interviews posted on
http://www.wendycarlos.com. She rarely grants
interviews and it took us months to get one
arranged...now we're close friends.
So, I have a lot of talents to mix into my career life,
graphics, some web design work, and an understanding of
meaning. Not that these are great DESIGNS, but I have
done "character driven" websites for artist/author
Jerry Wennstrom (http://www.handsofalchemy.com but
eventually his niece at Microsoft will redesign it) and
storyteller Laura Simms (http://www.laurasimms.com).
Am getting back to print graphics, mastering photoshop,
and Indesign. Very humbling. My personal life...never
married, lots of friends on Orcas and internet, though
not much where I now live. You can get a good sense of
me from poking around my 100 page website.
PS: On Easter of 2002, I moved back to MV, moved in
with mom (age 83) to take care of her. I work on a few
graphics and writing jobs at home, where I am basically
stuck. Anyone else in that boat?
